What are Insoles?
Insoles, by professional definition, are specialized pads that are placed inside shoes, and their purpose is to reduce the heavy loads on our feet and help absorb shocks to prevent injury to certain areas of the foot. While many shoes already have an internal pad, since it is not customized to each individual, it is not always sufficient to help treat or prevent orthopedic issues. After all, each person has a different foot shape and different orthopedic problems, and even the right and left feet of the same person can be vastly different. Therefore, if you want to optimally protect the foot, the best way to do so is by purchasing custom-fitted insoles for your specific feet.
How Do Custom-Fitted Insoles Protect Our Feet?
The feet bear our full body weight throughout the day, especially if we’re standing for hours, walking a lot, and of course if we’re running and/or jumping. In situations of such heavy load on the feet, the task of maintaining balance and stability falls on them, and these actions can shock the existing structure and can damage connective tissues, muscles, and nerves. When there are insoles customized to the feet inside the shoes, they balance the weight applied to the feet both when standing and when walking, running, or jumping. Additionally, the insoles are excellent shock absorbers and prevent a situation where certain areas of the foot undergo repeated shocks. Also, thanks to the fact that they are custom-fitted to the feet, they provide maximum support to the foot even when there are structural issues like flat feet, prominent bones, and others.
Who Needs Custom Insoles?
If you belong to one or more of these groups, it is very likely that custom insoles will improve your quality of life:
- People who suffer from foot pain due to a structural/functional problem in the feet.
- People who have a different foot structure, such as flat feet, high arches, etc., which causes pain or discomfort.
- People with a slight structural change in their feet that may not bother them now, but may cause damage later on due to their lifestyle, which includes prolonged standing, sports activities, etc.
- People who feel fatigue and/or discomfort in their feet and need more shock absorption than what is available in the standard pads found in shoes.
How Are Insoles Fitted?
There are two main ways to fit insoles to the feet:
- Walking and running on a special treadmill that has sensors that detect the amount of pressure exerted by each area of the foot as well as structural defects.
- Imprinting the feet in a special polymer material and manufacturing the insoles according to the imprint and dedicated laboratory tests.
At Avidor Insoles, we perform advanced insole fitting using the polymer glove – a glove that is worn on the feet and molded to their shape. Thanks to the fact that it provides information not only on the outline of the feet, but also on the shape, volume, circumferences, size and width, including non-standard structural defects. In combination with dedicated laboratory tests, our insoles are manufactured precisely according to the shape of the gloves and thus fit the feet perfectly. The result: custom insoles that help with a variety of orthopedic problems, absorb shocks and provide maximum and optimal support for the feet, knees and back.
